Ramadan – The Month of Holy Quran

Quran is the last book of guidance revealed upon Muhammad (PBUH) over the period of 23 years in Ramadan. It delivers guidance to us by providing the scale to differentiate between truth and falsehood. Quran is the only source of guidance, a complete manual for our lives that encourages us to do righteous deeds and to protect ourselves from the curse of evil.

Month Of Fasting Is The Month Of Quran

To the Companions of Muhammad (PBUH), the month of Ramadan was known as the month of Quran, the holy month in which the divine revelation took place. Quran was revealed in the night of Lailat-tul-Qadar, the blessed and powerful night. Quran says:

“Indeed, We sent the Qur’an down during the Night of Decree” [Quran, 97:1]

The entire Quran was compiled and finalized in Muhammad (PBUH) life-time, he later tested and verified it by making sure that each word had recorded accordingly at the time of revelation.

Importance Of Reciting Quran In Ramadan

Ibn ‘Abbas narrates “that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) was the most generous person, and he would be at his most generous in Ramadan because Jibril would come to him every night and he would rehearse the Qur’an with him.” [Sahih Al-Albani]

The above Ahadith explains the importance of Quran recitation in Ramadan and dotted on following points

  1. Studying of Quran in Ramadan
  2. Come together for this purpose
  3. The night is the best time to recite Quran

Aforementioned Ahadith emphasize on the recitation of Quran in this month of Ramadan in order to attain the true message of Allah Almighty. The Ahadith also emphasizes on the recitation of Quran I congregation i.e. Tarawih in which all the Muslims come together to offer Salah and recite entire Quran in it. The later part of Ahadith says that recite the Quran in night as it is the time when one can concentrate on the actual meanings of Quranic verses. As stated in Quran in Surah Muzamil

“Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words”. [Quran, 73:6]

 Strong bond with Quran in Ramadan

Ramadan is the month to make strong bond with the creator and His book of guidance, Quran. Being a Muslim, we should devote ourselves entirely in this month of Ramadan to create the bond that should last till eternity.

  1. Read Quran after every prayer especially after Fajar.
  2. Recite Quran with translation, only then the real message be revealed upon us.
  3. Offer Tarawih in Masjid that will provide you an opportunity to finish Quran one more time in the month of Ramadan.

Seek guidance from this book as much as we can because Quran is the word of Allah and if neglect it we will be answerable for our deeds at the Day of Judgment. Make Quran part of our life, include the teaching of Quran in our life in a way that it transforms us from the ordinary person to the person Allah wants us to be and the only key is to act upon the commandments of Allah that is written in the Holy book of Quran.

To Neglect Quran Is To Neglect Muhammad (PBUH)

Neglecting the teachings of Quran is to disobey Muhammad (PBUH) as it is stated in Quran that:

“And the Messenger has said, “O my Lord, indeed my people have taken this Qur’an as [a thing] abandoned.” [Quran, 25:30]

Making Quran a vital part of our life will make us able to act upon the teachings of Quran. The month of Ramadan offers us this unique opportunity to refresh our understanding regarding the teachings bestowed upon us in this book of Quran and to maintain the discipline we observe in this month of Ramadan throughout the year.
